The Road to Fat Tuesday: Your Krewe of Simba Ride Starts Here


Welcome to your insider's guide to everything leading up to our first-ever ride in the Zulu Parade on Mardi Gras Day 2026. Whether you're a first-time rider or a seasoned Mardi Gras lover, this is your chance to be part of something historic, bold, and full

Here's How we roll:

Krewe Schedule of Events


Join Float Captain Larry Barabino, Jr. in building something special, starting with connection and preparation. Meetings will help you get to know your fellow krewe members, stay in the loop, and get ready for the big day.


May 2025

  • First official in-person Krewe meeting
     

June – August 2025

  • Monthly Zoom or in-person meetings
     
  • Planning for throws, costumes, music, and logistics
     
  • Getting ready for the Zulu Annual Picnic
     

August 31, 2025

  • Zulu Annual Picnic (City Park, 10am – 5pm)
     
  • A celebration of culture, community, and Krewe unity!
     

September 2025 – January 2026

  • Monthly meetings resume (Zoom or in-person)
     
  • Topics include:
     
    • Krewe Party Planning
       
    • Costume Pickup
       
    • Float Spot Selection
       
    • Ride-Day Logistics
       

NOTE: All meeting dates and locations will be shared as they’re confirmed.
 

Your 2026 Parade Experience Includes:


As a Krewe of Simba rider, your package covers:

  • Float access with top-quality DJ/Music
     
  • Rider’s insurance
     
  • Official Zulu Commemorative Souvenir Program
     
  • Mardi Gras costume top
     
  • Krewe Party invitation
     
  • Dressing location on Mardi Gras morning
     
  • Snack pack for the ride
     
  • Mardi Gras Day breakfast


  • One-way transportation to float on Mardi Gras morning


 


Costume Checklist (You provide these items):

  • “Black Afro Wig”
     
  • “Grass Skirt”
     
  • “Safety Belt/Harness”


  • Make up
     
  • Black turtleneck or mock neck shirt
     
  • Black pants (tights, joggers, or jeans)
     
  • Comfortable black shoes
     
  • Optional snacks/beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic)
     

Don’t worry—we’ll share reminders and suggestions along the way.




Rules & Parade Day Guidelines


To make the day safe and fun for everyone, please follow these rules:

  • Minimum age to ride is 12 years old
     
  • All riders must be fully masked before boarding the float
     
  • No coconuts may be thrown — hand-to-hand only
     
  • No coconuts allowed on the upper deck ($500 fine per coconut!)
     
  • Riders may only start throwing once the float turns onto Jackson Ave.
     
  • Absolutely no spear throwing
     
  • No smoking on the float
     
  • Riders must sign insurance and liability waivers in advance
     
  • Respect your fellow riders’ space and belongings — no touching other people’s throws
     

Violations may result in removal from the float and disqualification from future parades.
